About this project.

The Beck Track and Field Project is all about restoring hope and health in the Georgetown community. Georgetown County Parks and Recreation will be constructing a lighted, 360’ x 240’ natural turf multi-purpose athletic field and six lane asphalt running track at the Beck Recreation Facility. The project will also include irrigation, lighting, and a concession/restroom facility.

The Fund Your Park Campaign will be focusing on raising money for the concession/restroom facility.

How will this impact your community?

The Beck Recreation Facility is located in a community where 75% of local students receive free or reduced lunch. One’s lack of financial resources should not be a roadblock to personal health and wellness. The project’s ultimate goal is to improve health and wellness of the surrounding community by providing a safe place for citizens to walk and play sports. However, physical activity only represents one aspect of health and wellness. Healthy eating habits are another critical piece to improving health and wellness.

Americans spend almost 50% of their food budget on meals away from home. In lower socio-economic households, the most accessible food choices are often higher calorie and less nutritious. Such choices can counteract the benefits of physical activity. Georgetown County Parks and Recreation is committed to improving the overall well-being of our citizens. Our goal is to create a concession facility that will promote and support healthy eating habits by making healthy foods available and attractive.
